About Sophie

Babies love Sophie!

They love her smile, her squeak, her smell, her spots and her long, long legs. Sophie la girafe is a unique toy made from 100% natural rubber and still hand made after more than 50 years.

She's a trusted friend and an ideal first toy, stimulating each of the five senses
from the age of 3 months:

At three months old, a baby's eyesight is still limited and they can only make out high contrasts. The dark and contrasting attention-catching spots all over Sophie la girafe's body provide visual stimulation and she soon becomes a familiar and reassuring object.

Hearing

Sophie la girafe's squeaker stimulates a baby's hearing and keeps them amused.

The funny sound she makes when she is squeezed helps them to understand the link between cause and effect.

Taste

Made of 100% natural rubber and food-
grade paints, Sophie is completely safe to chew. Her soft texture and numerous chewable parts - the ears, horns and legs - makes her perfect for soothing a baby's sore gums during teething.

Touch

Touch is the first means a baby has to communicate with the outside world.
Sophie la girafe's soft feel, like a mother's skin, stimulates physiological and emotional responses that soothe a baby and promote healthy growth and well-being.

Smell

The singular scent of natural rubber from the Hevea tree makes Sophie la girafe very special and easy for your baby to identify amongst all their other toys.

About Sophie la girafe...

Sophie la girafe still looks exactly the same today as when she was first made on May 25th 1961, Saint Sophie’s Day, hence her name.

She was an immediate success. Young parents recognised that she was a must for their baby, soothing sore gums when the first signs of teething appeared. By simple word of mouth, the little giraffe’s fame spread. Over the years, generations of children around the world have come to love her smile, her smell and her squeak whenever they've pressed her tummy or head!

To this day Sophie la girafe is traditionally produced by VULLI, a company based in Rumilly in the Haute-Savoie region of France. She is made from 100% natural rubber derived from the latex of the Hevea tree.  Vulli first heats this latex using a special process involving a technique called “rotomoulding” and then performs a series of 14 manual operations.

Vulli has always placed the quality of its products at the heart of its concerns.

For over fifty years, consumers have placed their trust in us and we do our utmost to satisfy them.

All of our products sold worldwide comply with European and global legislated standards. As such, Vulli provides its clients with products that comply with the very highest requirements. Regardless of the regulations in force in the country where they are sold, the same products are sold worldwide, meeting the most stringent legislation in all areas.

Additionally, since July 2011, each Sophie la girafe produced has her lot number printed on the back of a leg, enabling full product traceability including production date and relevant laboratory analysis.

Each number corresponds to a batch tested by an approved laboratory and certifies its compliance with European and international standards. In case of doubt, health authorities can access these analytical reports.

Moreover, we believe that we are the only toy manufacturer worldwide to offer such a high level of batch traceability, and therefore a high safety level for our consumers.
